Will you bill my insurance?

If Set Forth Counseling accepts your health insurance plan and your plan covers the services you are receiving, your insurance will automatically be billed for you. All other insurance plans, co-pays, reimbursements, etc. are the responsibility of the client/parent/guardian at the time of service.

Do I pay before or after a session?

Payment is due at the time of service in the form of cash, check, or credit/debit card. Cards will be charged at the close of the session and can be kept on file for your convenience.

Set Forth Counseling does not offer sliding-scale rates at this time.

What is the best way to communicate with you?

You can reach me, Nikki Wald with Set Forth Counseling by phone at: (231) 714-0293 or use my google voice number: (231) 714-0663. Email me anytime at: nikkiwald@setforth.org. During office hours, I will answer if I am not with a client and I typically return calls within a few hours. Calling or emailing are best and I’d greatly appreciate that you do not send text messages.

Why can’t we be friends on social media?

It is unethical for a therapist to “friend” a client or communicate using social media messaging, comments, etc. Set Forth Counseling has pages on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn for the purposes of being a visible and caring participant in our community and to market counseling services. Email or call to get in touch with me directly!

When would you have to break confidentiality or tell someone about something I said in therapy?

I am a licensed clinical social worker and a mandated reporter in the state of Michigan. I am required by law to notify the appropriate authorities if I suspect abuse of a child or vulnerable adult or if I am subpoenaed by a court of law. I review the limitations of confidentiality with each client from the very beginning to ensure they are fully informed and I vow to do everything in my power to communicate with a client surrounding this process, should the need arise for me to communicate with authorities outside of the therapeutic setting. Please review the full Notice of Privacy Practices.

Are you available if I need more than one appointment per week?

Counseling frequency is based on the needs of the individual. If my schedule allows, clients can absolutely schedule more than one visit in a week.

What do I do if I need help and you’re not available?

If there is an emergency, call 911. If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts about self-harm or suicide, call Third Level Crisis Line at: (231) 922-4800 or text them at: (231) 480-0292. Go to Set Forth Counseling's HELP RIGHT NOW page for additional crisis resources. Don’t wait, just call.

What if I can’t make it to my appointment?

Set Forth Counseling’s cancellation policy requires that clients give at least 24 hours advance notice by phone or email if an appointment needs to be rescheduled or cancelled to avoid being charged for the session. Please review the full Cancellation Policy.

How do I talk to my teenager about counseling?

It is an important conversation just like any other you have had with your child. Be honest and speak from your heart about why you think your child may benefit from counseling. Perhaps you have had personal experience you can share or see something positive in your child that they don't recognize or want to support them by providing a safe place for them to explore things that are difficult to talk about.

Am I allowed to join my child in a session?

Great question! Sometimes, joint sessions with a caregiver and child can be incredibly helpful. Please contact me, I’d be glad to discuss this with you!
